This project was design engineering based and in this project we had to research, design, improve and cost a new trolley jack product.
This was the linkage design for the trolley jack that would support the car. The key design areas here were to ensure that lifting plate remained flat while still being rigid. Also as it would be a manual piston that created the lift, correct dimensioning of the moving parts would ensure maximum lift for the force applied.
This model shows how the part would function within a 3d environment and helps identify areas where error could occur. Designing this model from a 2d sketch meant that each parts possible thickness could be attained and consequent force calculations carried out.
The hydraulic system that was designed to be used within the trolley jack had to meet certain criteria and be able to lift the weight of the average car. A hydraulic diagram was planned out so that the parts needed could be included in the design as well as being able to calculate the size of the cylinders needed.
